Named after a Swiss village, this cooked pressed cheese is best known as the main ingredient for cheese fondue, but its sweet-salty-nutty flavours can be used with so much more.

A great melting cheese, Gruyère is the classic cheese used with ham in quiche Lorraine, or use it as a stuffing for chicken breasts or pork tenderloin. For a casual afternoon get-together, serve a large wedge of Gruyère along with toasted nuts, sliced fruits and sparkling ciders.
